"Mapps of Love" was one of my favorite pieces I've created during sophomore year. This was my second hyper realistic portrait I've ever accomplished in acrylic which is also my favorite piece so far. This artwork has taught me multiple skills and shown me what I could specifically improve on with upcoming portraits I planned to create. Also, this was one of my favorite artworks to compose so far. In the beginning of this creation, I was nervous but was anticipated to see the outcome. I have started my typical grid then a sketch on top of my canvas. I soon laid the base layer of each feature of the face and went into details with each facial features. I then repeated the same process with the shirt, hands, hair, flowers, and background. After about three months of slow progress, I was successful of painting a hyper realistic portrait.
Behind this artwork is a more deeper meaning than just a "portrait". I particularly chosen to paint my best friend Kirsten by the reason of her deep impact on me. From her stories, she had a rough past with people, but this has led to the strong, amazing woman she grown into today. She is very determined within herself, yet compassionate towards others. Her spirit kills all negativity around, continuously uplifting others. The growth she has shown as a person and the energy she constantly projects grown onto me these past three years I've known her. She taught me how to love, become a happier person, and motivate me every day. So I dedicated this artwork to her to portray that development of herself. From her favorite red carnation to the pink sunset, this artwork is for her.
Here are some photos throughout the process of this creation:
